CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Yuki Minano
Canon: Handead Anthem
Canon point: Post-Summer Beat
Age: ~23
History: Gara's (
shurajodo ) player has a locked info post here, for reference's sake.
Some world info, first... The year is set something in the 2100's (described as year 21xx in canon) and Japan has undergone mass brainwashing at the hands of a long gone dictator. Those still brainwashed are referred to as Alivers, doomed to only work and pay bills for the rest of their lives. Handeads have appeared in the world semi-recently since that mass brainwashing, and are referred to as "half dead, half alive". They're also referred to as the "truly living" and can feel emotions more intensely than Alivers. At Yuki's current canon point, 50% of Japan is Handead. There's also DAA — Dead and Alive, an organization of Handead that seeks to grow their numbers. The DAA Rep is Yuki's grandfather, and he's often worried after by those who work for his family (as he's become such a free-spirit who does whatever he wants).
For Yuki specifically... He's shown in the JOIN US tracks to have been a highly anxious child — fretting over Gara and his constantly fluctuating dead level. He was close with Gara from youth, and the pair of them came to work with DAA. Genjiro Chibana and Kakeru Miyoshi often looked after them, and the four of them became close. Yet after Gara's abandonment by the DAA and after Kakeru going missing, there was about ten years unaccounted for in canon; it's uncertain exactly what Yuki was up to, besides making his family's caretakers anxious.
He and Gara came to meet with Genjiro again after so long, and announced they'd be joining up together outside of DAA to get into Great Music Festival (yes, it's really called that). Their group would quickly be named Shura Jodo, and the three of them fell into step with one another, working together on music like they never left one anothers' sides.
Suitability: Yuki is no stranger to strife and hardship of his own making; as a child, he was heavily anxious. While his demons stayed solely in his mind instead of taking physical form, Yuki is still able to adapt and roll with the punches with a clear head and purpose. He'd do his best to learn and help the collective. I believe his perspective and general calm vibe would make him an asset, even.
Is this a re-app?: No
Inventory: Three peach-and-musk sachets that calms down Handead whose dead levels are dangerously high.
Powers, abilities and/or inhuman traits:
ᐧ Handead physiology: He's more sensitive to physical sensations, such as pain and pleasure, and he has a 'dead point' which is just a discolored (maroon) dead part of his body; his are his wrists. He'll be fully alive and not susceptible to his dead level rising — which wasn't really a threat for him before because of his satchets (and a possibly yet-to-be-revealed reason), but its still possible.
Dead level rising is a threat to most other Handead, however; it's when their emotions reach a fever pitch through some trigger (like being faced with trauma or some other stressor, or even positive emotions like the happiness from being praised, etc.) and the Handead affected acts on impulse and emotion alone. The tell, besides the changed behavior, is the whites of their eyes turning blood red.
MANIFESTATION
Character flaws/traumas:
ᐧ Meddlesome: Yuki can be hot and cold, it seems, as far as his involvement in others' lives. He might appear observant and reserved in some situations, but fretful and even meddlesome in others. Yuki is known to butt himself into Gara's business particularly; he's sort of like his keeper in some respects. This seems to tie into his anxiety — after all, if he's not there to catch Gara when he falls, who else would be? Who else is capable of calming him? He's certainly reserved and calm when it comes to Ko and even telling him a few pretty big secrets about the nature and origin of Handead.
ᐧ Anxious: Though this showed itself more prominently when he was younger, Yuki can be anxious and worried. Again, this ties into his meddlesome nature and more often than otherwise, it presents itself in dealings with Gara. He used to be scared of Gara's dead level rising, which could be dangerous because of him acting on emotion and impulse, as well as attracting Crazy Bees — which could spell the end of life as he and other Handead know it. Yuki has a tighter rein on this, sure, but it certainly presents itself in other ways.
ᐧ Kakeru Miyoshi: Kakeru was as much Yuki's father figure as he was Gara's, and Yuki adored him, looked up to him. He was unafraid of Gara — and pretty much anything else, really — and his fluctuating dead level. Perhaps, after Kakeru went missing, this trait of his is what Yuki took on for himself. Though his trauma surrounding Kakeru doesn't present itself quite so explosively as it does in Gara, Yuki still feels the weight of his absence. He sees it in his best friend's face and actions that he does, as well, and this is one of the reasons for his meddlesome nature.
Manifestation name: Bee Keeper
Character trait(s) the Manifestation reflects: Anxiety, Kakeru
Description: A man in a business suit with a bee keeper's mask on, face dark and shadowed even under the hood. A swarm of Crazy Bees surrounds it, and said swarm seems to follow its commands.
Attacks and behavior: It seeks to harm Gara and those around Yuki as much as it seeks to hunt Yuki himself. It wails and hisses in strange tones but seldom speaks in words. It walks slowly, but it's incredibly persistent. The Bees follow its command and can catch up a lot quicker. While Yuki isn't normally as susceptible to Crazy Bees as any other Handead, these ones can get to him, though they won't have the same effect. Instead the stings are just immensely painful, not something that turns him Zendead.
Path towards resolution: Yuki seeks happiness above all else, and he seeks to guide others to the same, so I think him coming to terms with his trauma and anxieties wouldn't be as hard for him as it might be for some others. Still, this is what he has to face: the Kakeru trauma, and the fact that he's only shifted what his anxiety looks like. Not healed it completely.
For the Kakeru trauma, he'll have to come to terms with the missing person type fears, and the fears that anyone he loves might undergo the same fate; it's very possible for Handead to just go missing after being stung twice by a Crazy Bee, as they're turned Zendead. Zendead are basically fully undead zombies, though they're without urges to consume the living.
With his anxieties, however, coming to terms with the fact that he's only shifted what they look like might be difficult, as he's content to just meddle in Gara's affairs.
